There are only certain items in life that are worth spending the extra money on – if you can afford it. The good folks in the BuzzFeed community have shared some things they think are worth buying the expensive version of – so I’ve rounded up a few below.
1.
“Anything related to sleep. Over the past five years I’ve bought so many pillows because I have neck issues. The last one was $40 and I said that was as much as I was going to spend on a pillow. I took my grandson to buy a new bed and he insisted that I try this pillow. OMG! Yes, I bought it and it was originally $200, but it was on sale for President’s Day at $165. My sleep is still a little intermittent, but it’s not because of my neck.”

“A long underwear made of pure merino wool. This is the best tip if you live in a cold or snowy climate. Ooof, it’s expensive, but all of a sudden everything is possible outside again for you might be cold – but you will never freeze.”

“My husband and I moved into our first house at 27 and said it was the last time we would do the move on our own. Five years later we bought the house we are in and hired movers. Expensive and 1000% worth it.”

“This is going to sound crazy, but hear me out – an electric massage chair, like this one from Sharper Image. I bought ours from Menards for around $800. Sounds like a lot, but ours has paid for itself many times over. I used to have to choose between a chiropractor appointment about once every four days or chronic pain Same with my husband I use it almost every day and never felt better. You can sometimes buy a used one for a lot less on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist too.”

“I grew up in a home where mental health and therapy were flouted. I was told, ‘I’ll get over this. It took me years to undo that way of thinking and make an appointment. It’s expensive, yes, but you can’t put a price on something as critical as your mental health and self-care.

“Paper products. I’m a cheapskate and will always buy the store brand except when it comes to paper towels, tissues and toilet paper. There’s such a difference that it’s worth the shot.”
7.
“Rubber boots. I invested in Hunter boots four years ago and every winter I get dry feet.”

“Invest in your future. Roth IRA is a great start, but try to save a little money on each paycheck. I always transfer the money that’s left in my checking account to my savings account every period I wish I learned it sooner, but it’s really important. Take some lessons for you too. I recently took a scuba diving course and now I’m certified to dive. Well done! Follow cooking, yoga and pottery classes. Anything that piques your interest and can benefit you later in life, too.”

“Braces. I originally wanted to get rid of my two beaver-shaped front teeth, but braces have also helped me with biting, reduced my headaches – and if you grind your teeth at night, it’s free custody.”

“A good generator. We live in the mountains and sometimes lose power. The previous owners installed a great generator hook-up so it would power the whole house at the flick of a switch. We invested in a generator more nice and it’s amazing. You can hook up to your propane tank or just use gas (keep gas cans for backups). But seriously, if you live in an area where you know you lose power several times a year (or more), I can’t stress this investment enough.”

“Invest in real linen sheets. (Quince sells some at relatively affordable prices). Without them, I could never sleep in the heat. you’re up for hours at a time.”

“To me, this is a good water filter. Pitcher style, under sink system, or even whole house, there are plenty of options but either way, don’t just go cheap because the water is essential to life and plastic bottles add up to a lot of waste and a lot more money I have a reverse osmosis system under the kitchen sink and a lead reduction pitcher Pure for camping, you can literally tell the difference in taste from water from our fridge filter or taps.

“Definitely jeans. I used to buy cheap pairs that wore out on the inside of the thigh in a few months, so I had to buy several pairs a year. Then I bought Levi’s on a trip to the US I am now paying the extra price for them at home as they last much longer than my cheaper ones.”

“When I pick up my new glasses at Walmart they always give me a protection plan for an extra $20-30. Although it’s not my favorite thing to pay for the fact that I just spent $400-500 on the glasses themselves are so so Last time about a year after I received my glasses the arm broke in a way that was not fixable I took them to Walmart and they fixed them completely replaced without my paying a single penny more.
