Deadpool 3 officially begins filming

Deadpool 3 officially begins filming

It was starting to look like that moment would never come, but production officially began on Dead Pool 3. Since the release of Deadpool 2 in 2018, star Ryan Reynolds tried to make a sequel, and it was officially announced last year that Dead Pool 3 was under construction. Not only would the sequel bring back Reynolds as Deadpool, but the film will also feature the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, with the trio essentially serving as a Marvel Cinematic Universe version of The odd couple. It has since been given a release date of November 8, 2024.

In recent months, it had been teased that filming was coming soon. Jackman provided glimpses of his Wolverine training on social media. Reynolds also claimed last year that the plan was to begin filming just before summer 2023. Now a message shared with Stefan Kapicic‘s Instagram Stories confirmed that production has officially begun. The actor, who returns as Colossus in the threequel, posted a photo announcing that “Dead Pool 3 started production today,” along with the word “confirmed.” You can see an image from the Instagram Stories post below.

Kapicic isn’t the only returning character confirmed for the sequel. It was also reported that the new film would bring back other dead Pool movie stars like Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Rob Delaney as Peter, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Katsuna as Yukio, and Karan Soni as Dopinder. Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen also joined the cast in mystery roles.

Shawn Levy directs Dead Pool 3 after working with Ryan Reynolds on free guy And The Adam Project. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wrote the screenplay with additional revisions by Reynolds, Levy and Zeb Wells. Reynolds and Levy also produce with Kevin Feige.

While the movie officially places Deadpool in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, don’t expect the titular mercenary to have less of a mouthful. The film has been confirmed to be rated R, the first of all films set in the MCU to have this rating. But doing less wouldn’t really feel like a dead Pool movie, and that left Feige to give Reynolds and Co. the blessing they need to keep Dead Pool 3 R-rated. Feige is clearly very excited about the project.

“It’s amazing. And we have Hugh Jackman returning for our first Deadpool movie in the MCU,” Feige told EW of the threequel. “It’s our first R-rated movie. Hugh’s return is amazing… For him, and for me, and I think for all Marvel fans, it’s amazing what’s happened in those 23 years. It’s a very full-circle bringing him back in this new Deadpool movie.”

Dead Pool 3 will be released in theaters on November 8, 2024.
