Despite the fact that Shazam! Fury of the gods was one of DC’s biggest flops of late, the future of Zacharie Levi playing the most powerful mortal in the world is not yet decided. And while the character won’t be part of the first batch of announcements for the first phase of James Gunn’s new DCU, he could appear in the future.
Should there be a third Shazam! slice, Levi knows exactly which great comic book society hero he’d like to see paired with his character. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor revealed that Green Lantern would be his chosen one:
“Perhaps Green Lantern?” I would love to see Green Lantern help us fight off the undead hordes. I think that would be really cool.
Why hordes of undead? Recently, the actor floated an interesting idea for a third movie that included the hero and his team battling zombies.
If Green Lantern appears in a future Shazam! movie, he wouldn’t be the first major DC hero to help Billy Batson. In the first episode, Henry Cavill’s version of Superman made an appearance, although his face was never seen. In Fury of the godsGal Gadot has a brief scene with the Shazam Family, something Levi also talked about in the interview:
“I was just thrilled that she was ready. She crushes it. It was really cool that Gal was ready to play in our sandbox. She was busy working. She was shooting something else entirely, so we had a body double on our end. Then we got to shoot his stuff from another side. I think they did a great job of cutting it all together. And I love that Billy is so in love with him. her. He’s so smitten and he’s so nervous! It was fun to dip into. I felt like I was back to being myself at 17.
Green Lantern will play a big role in the next DCU
Billy Batson might not be part of the first phase of the new DCU, gods and monsters, but Green Lantern will be. Hal Jordan and John Stewart, two of the most popular names in the lantern world, will have their own series on Max.
According to James Gunn, it will be a real detectivestyle crime thriller, which will see the two protagonists solving mysteries across the multiverse. The project will replace the one previously announced Green Lantern Corps series directed by Arrowverse creators Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim. For the moment, only Berlanti remains linked to the production.
Like the vast majority of new DCU productions, plot or casting details that will be part of the show have yet to be revealed, though fans have already picked out several contestants they’d like to see like Jordan and Stewart.
For years, Bradley Cooper has been a fan favorite to play Jordan, while Sterling K. Brown has also long topped the list of potential Stewarts. Two other big names who have been favorites on social media are John Krasinski and Jamie Foxx.
Looking for young prospects, the two that seem to be getting the most buzz from fans are Top Gun: Maverick starring Glen Powell and star wars starring John Boyega. Aldis Hodge, who played Hawkman in black adamwould also be a good fit for Stewart.
